The Citizens Bank
Historic Restoration and Adaptive Reuse
Services: General Contracting | Historic Preservation Construction
Description: MASS Construction served as General Contractor for the historic restoration of the Citizens Bank Building, a 1925 structure in Miami’s OMNI District requiring both historic preservation expertise and ground-up reconstruction capabilities. The project involved preserving the original exterior façade while fully demolishing and rebuilding the interior structure, including the roof system. This dual-scope execution – historic restoration combined with modern construction – is one of the most complex project types in South Florida. A major technical challenge was the design and installation of a structural shoring system to support the historic façade during reconstruction. Portions of this system extended into a high-traffic public right-of-way, requiring coordination with the City of Miami, permitting agencies, and traffic management planning. The project spans approximately 14,820 square feet and is located within a key redevelopment corridor. MASS successfully delivered the project on time and within budget, earning recognition from the Dade Heritage Trust for historic preservation excellence. This project positions MASS as a leader in adaptive reuse construction, historic building restoration, and urban redevelopment in Miami.
